Robot arm for the lightweight robot LBR III

Goal:

To reach an outstanding ratio of payload and total mass the mass of the robot arm has to be minimized during the required stiffness of the structure is guaranteed.

Solution:

The reinforced structure was optimized by a Finite Element Analysis. The preform parts will be produced with TFP and than placed onto a silicon core. The consolidation of the structure is done by resin transfer moulding (RTM). The silicon core will be removed after curing. The weight of the composite robot arm is 320 g. excluding the inserts.
