Housing of a digital aerial camera

Goal:

The weight of the housing of the digital aerial camera has to be minimized and the high load requirements have to be fulfilled.

Solution:

The lower part of the camera housing (thermally insulated and heated lens cone shield) consists of different materials. The load carrying structure inside the cylinder is made of carbon fibre reinforced epoxy resin. The preform is produced by TFP with the following main fibre orientations:

  • axial in the wall
  • tangential in the flange
  • quasiisotrop in the bottom

The consolidation of the preform is done by vacuum mould injection. The weight of the composite part is 1050 g.
